Horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s is back with its eighth main installation in Security Breach. While the first-person, sneaking, and interaction gameplay remain similar to previous games, Security Breach takes a few twists that keep the game (and series) feeling fresh.
Importantly, Security Breach takes place over one night rather than the titular five nights. Freddy Fazbear is also on your side, guiding and assisting you as you seek to escape a mall – another difference from previous games. You will have to avoid Fazbear’s companions and security bots or you’ll hit the Game Over screen.
The game is out for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as PC. Future ports for Xbox Series X}S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch may release at later dates.

FNAF Security Breach Tips and Tricks for Beginners
Below are tips and tricks that will come in handy as you play through the game.
1. Save often in FNAF Security Breach

Although it takes place over the course of one night rather than the customary five, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is touted as the largest game yet with multiple hours of gameplay. As the in-game story is over six hours long (from 11:30 pm to 6:00 am), it makes sense some of that translates to real life.
As such, save often! To save, go to one of the “Save Your Spot” booths and hold Square. The issue is that these save spots are scattered throughout the mall, sometimes only after or well before certain tricky areas. The other issue is that, as the game informs you, it takes some time to save, so ensure you are not being pursued or in the path of a patrol. It is recommended to save whenever possible even if it means backtracking.
There is also one frustrating part early in the game where you must accomplish a multi-faceted task trapped in an area with a save spot right there…except it malfunctions until you complete the task.
If you suffer a Game Over by being caught, you will reload at your most recent save. Checkpoints and auto-saves are nonexistent in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, and it is rather frustrating to restart what amounted to 20 minutes of gameplay, so again, save often!
On a related note, listen to Fazbear’s advice! If you play on mute – this is one of those games where that is not advisable – then have subtitles enabled. Fazbear will direct you to your next destination as well as provide warnings, so heed his words so you don’t have to reload!
2. Stay in stealth mode as much as possible

As the game is about surviving until the morning to escape, stealth will be crucial in your avoiding detection. You’re trapped as little Gregory, who somehow gains the aid of Fazbear – though the bear cannot even explain why he’s helping you early on in the game. By entering stealth with R3, you are able to check your status as you make your way through the mall.
If your crouched figure in the corner has a blue outline, you’re undetected. If it has a yellow outline, then Fazbear’s friends or security bots are searching for you. If it’s red, you need to run as they found and will chase you.
There are times when using stealth isn’t necessary, and sprinting away with L3 is your best bet. There are even certain points in the game that you are forced to sprint away from your would-be captors. Still, especially in the tighter spaces of stores and sections within the mall, stealth is recommended. Some places will require you to enter the crouched stealth state to proceed.
If you’re sprinting yet feel like you could be going faster, ensure you’re still not in stealth and that the crouched figure is not on your screen. While you can still sprint in stealth, is is much slower than sprinting regularly.
3. Use cameras to advance

By entering the Fazwatch menu (Triangle, Touch Pad), you can gain access to the cameras around the mall, which become accessible shortly into the game as you reach the security room. You will also notice the other options in the Fazwatch: Map, Missions, and Messages. Note that the green star indicates a new mission or mission objective.
On the mini-map to the right, pictured above, you can see three small black rectangles bunched together with the orange player marker indicating your (Gregory’s) spot. You can cycle between the cameras with the d-pad. This will allow you to not only get a better view of your surroundings, but also observe your pursuers.
The animatronic baddies – Montgomery Gator, Roxanne Wolf, and Glamrock Chica – all have distinct patrol patterns that become evident when using the cameras. The security bots that litter the mall also have defined routes. Use this to your advantage.
If you know you need to get upstairs and to the left (which you will), then wait until Chica turns to the right upstairs and sprint for the left staircase, all the while avoiding the flashlights of the bots. Then, sneak up the stairs and proceed.
4. Use hiding places and distractions

You will also need to use hiding spaces in conjunction with the cameras at times. These spaces can be large bins, photo booths, and even strollers. To enter a hiding spot, press Square at the spot. Crucially, you can still access the cameras from your hiding spot so you can time your escape.
Be careful as a foe who sees you entering a hiding space will find you. Nothing’s more creepy than your hiding spot being invaded by those big eyes and a jump scare.

At other times, you will need to cause a noisy distraction to open up your path lest you be stymied by your captors. To cause a distraction, approach a set of cans (or something similar) and press Square. This will cause them to topple and create a commotion.
The very first instance in the game requires you to knock over cans to force Chica out of the bathroom so that you can exit. You’ll notice as you exit the other side of the bathroom that Chica’s back is turned to you as she is examining the felled cans.
You will need to cause distractions at other times not just to proceed, but to open up a section that you need to access or re-access by pulling the patrol away from the area.
5. Collect messages for hints when you’re stuck

Throughout the mall, you will find two types of interactable collectibles: bags and gift boxes. The bags contain messages while the gift boxes contain key items for Gregory – such as the Photo Pass needed to free Fazbear from his room.
The issue is that the bags – at least they look like duffle bags – are usually located in highly-patrolled areas. If you are to get these, the trick is to ensure that any of Fazbear’s pals, as well as the bots, are just entering their route heading away from the bag. Sprint forward, hold Square to collect, then sprint away.
Messages contain information from former customers, employers, and more that will give you insight into the mall and at times, tips on how to advance. One message in the main square near customer service and the gift shop will inform you of the importance of a magnet you receive from a gift box.
Another bonus is that if their view isn’t obstructed, then you can see these boxes and bags through the cameras. This can help you plan where you want to go – should that area have been opened – or mark down for a future retrieval.
There you have it, everything you need to know to begin your trek as Gregory and Fazbear to survive until the mall reopens in the morning. Remember: stealth, cameras, hiding spots, and distractions are your key to survival. A good sprint surpasses those four at times – should you escape. Regardless, how will you fare as little Gregory in Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach?
