I dont want dark mode in maps for driving because I cannot see it properly. I do set dark mode on my iPhone at all times for everything else, BUT I ONLY WANT MAPS TO BE IN LIGHT MODE.
How do I change this?

To turn off dark mode in Apple Maps, go to upper right icon on main screen and click on driving. I had had it on satellite. That switched it to light mode for me. Hope this helps.

To turn off dark mode in Apple Maps, go to upper right icon on main screen and click on driving. I had had it on satellite. That switched it to light mode for me. Hope this helps.

I have switched back to Light mode and still get dark mode in maps after dark. Shut down my phone. Changed to Light appearance on the desk top version. Still dark on directions.
This is actually dangerous to not be able to see the screen.

I created 2 news shortcuts. The first one triggered by opening Apple Maps will turn light mode on, the second one triggered by closing Apple Maps turns dark mode back on.

There is none in Maps, merot.
The night mode is harder to see, and shows less detail than the day mode; the day mode is bad enough as it is. I'll take my Garmin any day. These smart phones are growing less and less useful and more user hostile all the time.

Hi dre197,
Apple Maps uses the system wide settings for Dark Mode. There is not an independent option for the Maps app.
You can swap back to Light under Settings > Display & Brightness if you prefer. Also if you want more app modularity out of this feature, we can recommend submitting feedback to Apple.

Use Automation to set „when Maps opens, then Appearance ist Light“ and „when Maps closed, then Appearance is Dark“. It works perfect for me.
